1. Introduction

Our department was founded according to the decision No.543/QD-DHH-TCNS of the Rector of Hue University about the establishment of Faculty of Pharmacy on 9th November 2004 based on the conversion from Department of Pharmacy, which was established in 1999.

Over more than 20 years of establishment, nowadays, with the development of teaching staff and facilities, we have gradually taken responsibility in teaching all related subjects for undergraduate pharmacy program. In addition, we are in charge of teaching some involved subjects for graduate pharmacy programs, doing research, supervising student theses, and strengthening the international relationships with universities and other partners.

2. Research fields

• Development of the dosage forms containing  materials originating from medicinal plants/hebrs.
• Formulation of new dosage forms such as nano-sized delivery systems, self-micro/nanoemulsifying systems, etc.
• Evaluation of in vitro and in vivo bioavailability of the dosage forms.

• Building in silico models for prediction, classification, and screening chemical substances with biological activities. Design of medicinal compounds with promising predicted bioactivities as the foundation for chemical synthesis and experimental bioassay.

 4. Training objectives

- Providing the basic knowledge about the technique of preparation and biopharmaceutics of drug dosage forms such as solution for oral and topical use, injection, eye drop, the extract, ointment, suppository, powder, tablet, and the drug incompatibility.

- Providing the knowledge about the method of drug discovery, some typical reactions in pharmaco-chemical synthesis; Analyzing the factors affecting the process of extraction of medicinal herbs; Providing the knowledge of the methods of extraction and some equipment used in the industry of herb extraction, about the process and technology in biotechnologically drug production.

- Providing the knowledge about some basic techniques in drug manufacturing such as drying, sterilization, filtration, reducing the particle size, and the knowledge about the methods and equipment for the production of some drug dosage forms in industry such as tablets, hard capsules, soft capsules.

- Providing the knowledge about formulation design, the methods of preparation and quality evaluation of some special dosage forms, and updating some new dosage forms.

- Providing basic courses in Pharmaceutical Chemistry for Pharmacy students.
