1. Introduction

The department of Drug quality control - Analytical Chemistry - Toxicology was founded from the Faculty of Pharmacy’s establishment according to Decision No. 543/QĐ - ĐHH - TCNS of the President of Hue University on November 9^th, 2004. The department of Drug quality control - Analytical Chemistry - Toxicology is responsible for teaching both basic science (Analytical chemistry) and advanced pharmacy-related courses (Drug quality control, Drug quality assurance and Toxicology), aiming to provide knowledge and expertise in analyzing and testing drug materials, cosmetics and dietary supplements for undergraduate and graduate pharmacy students.

At the early start of training, adjunct lecturers from Faculty of Public Health – Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Faculty of Chemistry - Hue University of Sciences and Drug, Cosmetic and Food Quality Control Center of Thua Thien Hue were invited to ensure good teaching quality in some subjects. Recently, most of our lecturers have had postgraduate qualifications and gradually take charge in all subjects. Up to now, our department has 9 faculty members and staff, including 1 Associate Professor, 3 Doctoral candidates, 1 Master, 2 Pharmacists and 2 Bachelors in Chemistry.

2. Research areas

- Evaluating the quality of drugs, cosmetics and dietary supplements by physical-chemical, pharmacological and microbiological methods.

- Analyzing drug and biomarker concentration in biological samples for evaluation of pharmacokinetics, bioequivalence and bioavailability

- Establishing and standardizing quality standards for medicines, cosmetics and dietary supplements

- Synthesizing and establishing reference materials used in drug quality controls.

- Synthesizing on asymmetric chemistry, organometallics and bioactivities of synthetic compounds.
